Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat
sport and a self-defense system that focuses on grappling
and especially ground fighting. The art was derived from
the Japanese martial art
of Kodokan
judo in
the early 20th century,[1][2]
which was itself developed from a number of schools (or Ryu) of Japanese jujutsu
in the 19th century.
It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can
successfully defend themself against a bigger, stronger assailant by
using leverage and proper technique—most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds
to defeat the other person. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be trained for
sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and
mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense.[3]
Sparring
(commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in
training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in
competition. Victor Huber is a native of Rio and grew up in Brasil defending the honor of Gracie Humaita against all comers. Victor defeated numerous opponents who showed up to challenge his skills and this unique experience makes him one of the few Gracie Jiu JItsu masters in Florida. Victor was awarded all of his belts from Rolker and Royler Gracie of Gracie Humaita. Everyone that joins are BJJ program really has a rare opportunity to train with a part of Brazilian JIu Jitsu history. Are you looking somewhere else? Think about what their BJJ experience and qualifications really are. Our instructors, at this time, are the only ones who's rank is certified by the IBJJF making them qualified to compete in the Brown and Black Belt Divisions at the Mundials. Ask your potential instructors if they have a IBJJF card certifying their rank and experience. Ask to see their card. If they don't have one there's probably a good reason. Ask if your instructor even competes, when was their last competition, what event was it? Do they make an effort to compete in IBJJF events against the best in the world? If not then there is probably a good reason. We only ask that you open your eyes and see whats really going on.
